| The Supreme Council of the Ancient and Accepted
Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Southern Jurisdiction, USA
also offers several scholarships. As these scholarships
are available nationwide, they do not require Washington
State residency, nor are they restricted to Washington
State colleges or universities. These programs are
available to United States citizens only for study at
schools within the U.S. Washington State students should
contact the Director of the Scottish Rite Scholarship
Foundation in the area of his/her home address for
further information and applications. If you are
attending a college some distance from your home area
(such as attending school in Seattle, and your home area
is Spokane), you may contact a Director in the area
closest to your school. They will be happy to help you.

The three scholarships listed below

fields associated with:

Shepherd Scholarships
are
in the amount of $1500.00 per year toward tuition costs
for a maximum of four years, or upon earning a degree
whichever is sooner. Renewals will be at the sole
discretion and determination of the Sovereign Grand
Commander of the Supreme Council. The total number of
awards given each year may vary, dependent upon funds
available.
The objective of this scholarship is to aid worthy
candidates in obtaining baccalaureate or graduate
degrees in fields associated with service to country and
generally perceived as benefiting the human race.
Successful applicants will be those who are best
qualified by dedication, ambition, academic preparation,
financial need and promise of outstanding performance at
the advanced level. It will be helpful if each candidate
has shown sincere interest in and taken an active part
in social, civic, religious and fraternal activities of
the community.

Sam and
Millie Hilburn Scholarships, for use
toward tuition costs, books and school fees, are in the
amount of $5000.00 per year for a maximum of two years,
or upon earning a graduate degree in the field of
Childhood Language Disorders, whichever is sooner. The
total number of awards given each year may vary,
dependent upon funds available.
The objective of this scholarship is to aid worthy
graduate candidates to become specialists in the field
of Childhood Language Disorders. Successful applicants
will be those who are best qualified by dedication,
ambition, academic preparation, financial need and
promise of outstanding performance at the advanced
level.

Public School
Administration
The Council makes available two
fellowships a year for individuals who have completed a
master's degree in some phase of education and wish to
attain a doctoral degree in Public School
Administration. Each fellowship is in the amount of
$12,000 ($6,000 per year) provided satisfactory academic
work is maintained.
Following is a summary of the requirements for this
program:
- Must have a bachelor and M.A. or M.S. degree
with good scholastic records.
- Must have sterling character and personal
integrity. Letters of recommendation should so
indicate.
- Must have demonstrated effectiveness in public
school work and are committed to public school
education.
- Must have been an active leader in community
affairs.
- Age must be such that there is the probability
of a substantial number of years of service in the
public school system until retirement (preferably 15
years), but exceptions will be made.
- Must have planned work for a doctor's degree in
a university, which is accredited and has a
reputation for outstanding graduate work in the
field of Public School Administration.
- There should be evidence presented that without
the financial assistance provided by the fellowship,
the individual would not pursue further graduate
studies.

George
Washington University (GWU)
In addition to the above programs,
the Council sponsors other scholarships and fellowships
for both undergraduate and graduate study at George
Washington University. These range from $10,000 to
$13,000 depending on the program.
